Sam Upton| Senior Revenue
Strategist
"Anne Frank probably said it best: No one has
ever become poor by giving."
His credentials: As senior revenue strategist,
Sam leads all HR, accounting, finance and
pricing strategy for uBack. He is a CPA who
joined the uBack team from the accounting
and finance department of Nucor Corporation,
a steel company based in Charlotte, N.C. Prior
to that, Sam spent two years with
PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Charlotte
Assurance Practice. He is a graduate of Elon
University.
His passion: Outside the office, Sam is a Little
League coach, reader, weight lifter, video
gamer and hiker. He's also a proud supporter
of Elon University and Little League Baseball.
Cassandra Farina | Director of
Digital Branding and Marketing
Relations
"Being a part of the uBack team, we are surrounded
by people radiating good. It’s a contagious feeling
that makes each day so rewarding."
Her credentials: Cassandra is a graphic designer
with over 10 years experience in the areas of
marketing and graphic design, brand development
and creative management. Before joining uBack,
she worked in graphic design, catalogue production
and marketing for Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in
Chicago. She holds a B.F.A. in graphic design from
Iowa State University.
Her passion: Born and raised on Lake Michigan,
Cassandra is a proud Green Bay Packers fan. When
not at her Mac, you can find her in the kitchen,
crafting a new project or exploring Washington, D.C.,
with stroller and hound dogs in hand.
Allen Spicer | Junior iOS Developer
"I believe in turning thoughts into actions and
supporting the organizations that need us, just like
we need them."
His credentials: Allen is an iOS developer with
experience managing nonprofits and fundraising
on their behalf. In nearly seven years in the
nonprofit world, Allen served as a staff member,
fundraising consultant and an executive director.
His role at uBack joins his love for technology and
his nonprofit experience into one focus: building
powerful mobile solutions for nonprofits. Allen
holds a degree in economics and
entrepreneurship from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His passion: Allen has worked on five of the seven
continents as a snowboard instructor, a moderator
and a bosun. He has also sailed around Cape
Horn. He's an active supporter of education and
environment-focused organizations, as well as
those focused on empowering other nonprofits.
Mindy Miller | Director of Market
Growth and Strategy
"Giving back is not only our responsibility, but it also
helps fuel our soul”
Her credentials: At uBack, Mindy focuses her energy
and thinking to lead our sales and growth across
both our nonprofit partners and corporate clients.
Her goal is to ensure our uBack family continues to
bridge corporate social responsibility across our local
communities. Prior to joining uBack, Mindy spent 15
years in financial management services consulting at
Accenture. Her experience includes serving senior
clients to manage large-scale and complex change,
defining and executing target operating models, and
leading extensive transformations and acquisitions
while managing the change journey. Mindy is a
summa cum laude graduate of North Carolina State
University, with a B.S. in chemical engineering.
Her passion: Mindy lives in Charlotte, N.C., with her
husband and two children, Hayden and Seth. She's a
runner, skier and travel extremist who has visited six
of the seven continents. As a mother, Mindy’s
greatest passion is creating increased opportunity
and upward mobility for our next generation.

Her credentials: As a managing director in Accenture’s Financial Services practice, Melissa spent 18-plus years
in the global consulting industry, delivering large scale, complex change and talent transformations within the
federal government, products and financial services sectors. Before joining Accenture, she worked with IBM
and PwC as a management consultant. Melissa served as adjunct faculty at Queens University of Charlotte
within the Department of Psychology and sits on the board of the Dowd YMCA and Opera Carolina in
Charlotte, N.C. Melissa holds an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and
a master's in industrial/organizational psychology from George Mason University.
Her passion: Melissa is passionate about philanthropy and supports a variety of causes, including cancer,
heart health, food banks, mental health treatment and higher education. She's an identical twin (her sister,
Melinda, is a clinical psychologist and professor) who loves food and exercise in equal amounts. In fact, the
idea to launch uBack came to her during a spin class at the Dowd YMCA. Melissa lives in Charlotte, N.C., with
her husband and daughter, Sydney.
Her credentials: Kaitlin is a business and community change leader who is passionate about harnessing ideas,
data and the collective power of people, corporations and nonprofits to change the world. Prior to uBack,
Kaitlin spent a decade with Accenture, most recently serving as the North American lead for Financial Services’
Change Management. She has award-winning experience in helping Fortune 100 companies
manage/implement change and has spent 15 years serving on nonprofit boards and building partnerships that
solve community issues. Kaitlin is also a University of Illinois – Nonprofit Management Thought Leader, a
member of the Advisory Circle for Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Women's Philanthropy
Institute and co-chair of Women Tech Founder's nonprofit programs. Earlier in her career, Kaitlin worked as a
journalist for the Irish Independent in Ireland, as well as CBS News in Boston and Chicago.
Her passion: Kaitlin is passionate about family, community and the great city of Chicago, where she lives with
her husband, Chris and son, Charlie. Kaitlin channels her energy into helping organizations that create
stronger, healthier communities, such as Heartland Alliance, Cook County Health Foundation, Girls Take Charge,
New Sector Alliance and Spark. She's also a sports fanatic, proud Michigan State University alum and outdoor
enthusiast. Her family's dream vacation is to spend months hiking each of the national parks.
Carole Pesavento | Account
Manager, Nonprofit

Sometimes those little things occupy the
biggest part of their hearts.”
Her credentials: After being a stay-at-home
mom to her four children for 13 years, she
worked in both the medical assistant and
veterinary technician fields. Carole enjoys
helping non-profits enrich their consumer
donation and overall fundraising experience.
Prior to raising her family, she spent over a
decade in sales where she cultivated great
customer service, which directly translates to
her position with uBack.
Her passion: Carole lives in Charlotte, NC with
her best friend and husband John and her four
amazing children. She is an avid animal lover
having 5 cats and 1 dog, all rescues. In
addition to working with non-profits at uBack,
she teaches The Bradley Method of childbirth.
J. Kenzal Hunter, Sr. | Senior
Software Developer
“Remember the Past, Give for the Present, Teach for
the Future.”
His credentials: Kenzal is a PHP developer with
more than a dozen years of experience specializing
in software architecture, process automation, and
productivity improvement. Before uBack, he
worked to improve companies in a variety of
industries from security compliance to insurance to
e-commerce. When not actively developing
software, Kenzal mentors junior developers in
developing good programming habits, algorithm
design, and standards compliance.
His passion: Kenzal lives outside of Atlanta with his
family and loves learning folk skills such as
blacksmithing, gardening, and beekeeping. When
not writing software or working with his hands, he
can ofttimes be found cooking or reading. Always
willing to share his knowledge, Kenzal will gladly talk
about, demonstrate, or teach what he knows of any
of his areas of interest. His hope is that these
dwindling arts will not be forgotten.
Jeffery Broadie | Software QA
Lead Tester
"The act of giving is not just about making a
donation; it is about making a difference in multiple
ways and seeing its impact. Working with uBack
allows me to contribute and see first hand the
various ways in making a true difference counts."
His credentials: As the Software QA lead tester for
uBack, Jeffery devises the test data and test plans
for testing the different uBack products on desktop
as well as mobile applications. Before coming to
uBack, Jeffery worked at Novant Health in Fort Mill,
SC where he was a Software QA Analyst contributing
test strategies and concepts for multiple projects.
Prior to Novant Health, Jeffery was a Business
Analyst for Wells Fargo in Charlotte, NC, which was
where he transitioned from being a Business
Analyst to to a Quality Assurance Analyst. Jeffery is
a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in
Greensboro, NC with a degree in Electronic and
Computer Information Technology.
His passion: Jeffery lives in Charlotte and is a native
Charlottean growing up the University City area. He
is an avid sports fan being a big time fan of the
Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bulls, and Real Madrid
soccer club. In his spare time he loves spending
time with his family and friends and rooting for his
favorite sports teams.
His credentials: John brings with him 26-plus years of technology innovation and implementation experience
in working with some of the world’s leading organizations to implement large scale technology platforms to
accelerate their digital and eCommerce objectives. John has worked across multiple industries including
Financial Services and Travel & Transportation. He has held multiple senior level positions at a large global
consulting firm including head of the South Region Technology Advisory practice and head of the Data and
Analytics Delivery practice for Financial Servies N.A. As CTO of uBack, John is responsible for defining uBack’s
technology strategy and then realizing the strategy through the innovative application of market leading
technologies that differentiate uBack’s platform offering from our competitors. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Illinois.
His passion: John is passionate about leveraging disruptive technology in new and innovative ways to solve
the world’s most complex social challenges. His specific interest is in addressing the physical, emotional, and
character needs of children and young adults as they set the “tone” for who and what we will become as a
society. “There is nothing more satisfying than having a sustainable 10X impact on our future generation.”
John resides in the Lake Norman area with his wife, Carole, and is blessed with four terrific kids.
